A place which you must see it by yourself - the Saloma Link Bridge or Pintasan Saloma has now combined the old and new sides of Kuala Lumpur, giving you a seamless access to experience the local beauty!
Saloma Bridge, one of the latest Instagrammable spot, took nearly two years for completion. This 69 meters bridge costs RM31 million to join the old Kampung Baru district and the Kuala Lumpur City Center. Many are amazed by its beauty, especially at night where it's lit up with 4,100 LED lights!
However, not many know the story behind this beautiful piece of architecture -
Who is it named after? And why is it located there?
Here's why.
Ever heard of Marilyn Monroe? A singer/ actress who was fairly popular in the 1950s. How about 'Marilyn Monroe of the East'? Yes, it's Salmah binti Ismail, better known as 'Saloma' (her stage name), an actress and singer who had been given the nickname by Marlon Brando! She was also called the Biduanita Pertama Negara or the First National Songbird. If you wanna find out how she earned her title, check out below video:
And Saloma's husband, is someone I'm sure you've definitely heard of - P. Ramlee or Tan Sri Teuku Zakaria Bin Teuku Nyak Puteh. Both the husband and wife had left unforgettable marks throughout their career paths.
On one side of the Saloma Link is the Muslim Cemetery where P. Ramlee & Saloma are buried. (Picture by Hari Anggara)
How do I get to Saloma Link Bridge?
In case you haven't been to this must-go spot yet, there are few ways for you to get there.
Kampung Baru side - Take LRT and stop at Kampung Baru station.
KLCC side - There's quite a distance from the KLCC if you were to walk there. Turn right when you see NZ Curry House and keep walking along the street until you see the bridge.
If you're driving, the nearest parking would be an open-air carpark near Public Bank on your way from KLCC. Otherwise, an easier way would be to call a Grab car.
